Are you fascinated with the art, culture, fashions, music, architecture, literature and the other positive aspects of the Victorian & Edwardian (circa approx. 1837-1919) eras? Do you enjoy antiques, visiting historical homes, attending re-enactments, costume balls, films, etc., either reflecting, depicting, or inspired by that time period? If so, then this is a group you might consider joining. Victorian-Gothic enthusiasts are welcome(I will also announce Victorian-Gothic/Steampunk themed events to this group). Since Canada sadly has so few historically-themed events any more (hence the fact that we don't have a regular schedule here), this group will also consider participating in events which depict a time period prior to the Victorian era (pre-1837), and post-Edwardian period (after 1920, up to 1929; Great Gatsby/flapper-themed events, films, exhibits, etc. are very interesting, fun and enjoyable!). Instead of simply meeting at a coffee shop to chit-chat about history, this group will involve participation in a wide range of events which have the above-mentioned eras as prevailing themes, such as costume balls/galas/dances, theatrical performances, exhibits, visting museums/historical homes, participation in the Toronto Doors Open program, historical festivals, films, parties, historical dance lessons (Fort York offers Regency dance lessons a few times per year), lectures, Heritage Canada Foundation events (I strongly encourage everyone to consider becoming a member), among other events.
Why did I start this group? The Victorian/Edwardian eras have been a passion of mine for many years now. I don't profess to be an expert; just a great enthusiast of history, who would like to keep the positive aspects of it alive & well.
It is a dream of mine to build a group of enough history enthusiasts to be able to plan fundraising period costume galas, in aid of preservation of Canada's rapidly vanishing historical gems. Please post any relevant events here. Thanks.
