Title - "The Odd Couple" or "Enter Longshot"
Date - September 23, 2000
Players - Adam (Warlock), Longshot
Logged By - Longshot
Synopsis - A confused Longshot finds a companion in Central Park. and
perhaps a beginging to the answers of his questions.

Descriptions:

Adam - A rather tall and well-built young man. His face is angular
and sharp and his hair golden and wild, and long enough to reach his
shoulders. He is wearing sunglasses and his eyes remain unseen, but
his skin is of a strange bronze-gold color. He moves with grace and
precision, much like a cat, always aware of his environment. An
strange aura of alieness seems to surround him, easy to notice for
everybody except the most insensitive, making some people feel
attracted to him, but causing most humans to feel unease around him.
His clothes are very simple, he is wearing a red pullover over a
black shirt, black jeans on his legs and comfortable looking
sneakers. He wears no jewelry, or even a watch, but but somehow he
manages to look strange even in the simplest garb.

Longshot - Tall, slender, and very blonde, Longshot is a young man
(approximately 19 or 20) who makes heads turn. His face is that of an
angel, soft yellow eyes contrast the sharp angles of his chin line,
and small nose. All of it is outlined with shortly cropped, and
nicely kept hair, combed forward into a caesar style. He drapes his
small frame in dark colors, giving him an even thinner appearance.
Mainly he can be found wearing a nice modern sweater, long black
slacks, and black paramilitary boots. Over all of this he wears a
thin gray leather coat that flows in the wind, and comes to rest
midway down his thigh. However, concealed under that coat is a
modified holster that he uses to store his throwing dagger. One of
the most noticeable features of Longshot is that he only has 3
fingers on each hand. Because of this he often keeps his hands in his
pockets when he is out in the public eye.

Location -- Central Park South

Adam is sitting down at one of the park benches, eyes half-closed,
maybe meditating. A large stack of books rest at his side, but he
seems to have finished with them for today.

Longshot wonders aimlessly around the park, taken in by its beauty.
he finds it odd that something so beautiful can be surrounded by such
cold buildings of steel and stone. He still has no idea where this
Columbia University is. Then he notices a man sitting on a bench who
somehow seems out of place. Longshot feels out of place, so maybe
this man feels the same way. Longshot decides to ask for
assistance. "Excuse me sir...?"

Adam turns his head to look at Longshot, a bit surprised by being
approached by anybody. Behind his glasses his gaze narrows to study
the strange young man before him. "Yes, you are. What else can I do
for you?"

"I am what sir?" Longshot is clearly taken back by the man's
responce. He hadn't even posed a question yet, why was this man
answering him?

Adam smiles slightly, "you asked me to excuse you, didn't you? I
always thought it was an interesting expression, asking before
asking." Adam waves his hand to invite Longshot to sit down in the
bench. "Perhaps I should ask you to excuse myself for the confusion,
what did you want?"

Longshot shakes his head briefly, this man seems helpful, if not a
bit bizzare. Longshot takes comfort in this mans being different
though and decides to sit down next to him on the bench as the man
had motioned. "I am seeking Charles F. Xavier or Moria McTaggert. Do
you know these people? I think they might be friends of mine."
Longshot doesn't sound fully confident in his statement, but says it
anyways. It's such a big city, he dosen't know how he'll ever find
these people he's supposed to be looking for. He hopes he doesn't
have to ask everyone in the city if they know them, that could take a
long time.

Adam nods once, thoughtfully, "I have read about them, their names
have appeared on newspapers several times these last weeks. I
remember Dr. McTaggert is staying at Columbia University and
Professor Xavier lives in a town nearby called Westchester. The exact
address should be easy to find." Adam looks at Longshot with a
curious expression. "That was a strange question. Most unusual." He
comments.

Longshot looks around almost in a manner that could be called
nervously. "Why would that be a strange question? I'm simply looking
for some people, and I just wasn't sure where to find them." Longshot
begins to calm down, not quite sure why he had gotten so nervous.

Adam raises an eyebrow at Longshot strange behavior, "it is uncommon
to ask for the whereabouts of people in a city of this size, unless
it is sure they are very near. Which I don't think you do. Actually
you don't seem very sure of anything." Adam had been speaking calmly
up to now, but now he seems slightly upset, "are you in trouble?"

Longshot shakes his head "Not that I know of," he pauses. "Of course,
there's not much that I know of right now." Longshot lowers his head
for a moment, he trusts this man, even if he is a bit bizzare, he's
help him so far, why should the man stop. "I do have this problem
though. I don't know who I am, or even where I am, short of a park in
the middle of a very large city." Longshot looks up at the man to see
if he believes what Longshot is saying. When he is confident that the
man is he continues, "You see, I woke up in an alley with this
note..." Longshot digs through his pockets, pulling all sorts of
things out. He comes out with a wadded piece of paper wrapped around
several $100 bills. Longshot shoves the bills back into his pockets
as if they mean nothing to him. "This note, it told me that there was
this locker, and it had all my answers in it, but all I found was
this money, and a newspaper article. One of the articles you spoke of
earlier, and it went on and on about Xavier and McTaggert, so I
figured I was meant to seek them out." Longshot looks at the man
again, almost desperate for assistance from this stranger. "What do
you think?"

Adam is silent for a few seconds, a long timespan for him, "I think
you are in trouble. You don't remember your past, you don't know who
you are or where you are." Then nods, "yes, you should seek Xavier
and McTaggert, and quickly." Adam stands up, "I will help you, since
you asked for my help and I was in your situation not so long ago."
Adam smiles slightly, "I am Adam, how do you call yourself?"

Longshot smiles relieved that Adam is willing to help him. "The note
was addressed to 'Longshot', so I suppose that's what I am called."

Adam nods, "yes I believe it is... very descriptive of who you are.
Most people has meaningless names, but I'd say you are a lucky one.
Now, if you follow me, we have to walk a bit to reach Columbia
University." Adam begins walking northwards.

Longshot smiles contented. He doesn't care how far he has to walk so
long as he finds Xavier and McTaggert, and now he has a companion. He
jogs to catch up with Adam and walks beside him northwards.

After walking for a few minutes the paths of the park, which is
slowly being deserted by the normal citizens of New York as it gets
darker, Adam breaks the silence with one of his strange
comments, "you don't walk like a human being."

Longshot's face clouds over with confusion. o O (I don't walk like a
human?) "What do you mean? Do you mean I walk like an animal? Surely
not, I'm not on all fours. I stand and walk erect like you."
Longshot's voice never leaves his usual calm tone even though Adam's
comment clearly bothered him. He knew he was different than other
humans, merely looking at his hands revealed that, but who was this
man to point out that he wasn't like other people?

Adam notices Longshot confusion and annoyance, "no, what I meant is
that you move differently to normal humans, I find it interesting
because I had never seen anything alike before I arrived to this
city," Adam looks up briefly, "it is not something humans seem to
notice either. I still don't know if they are unable or unwilling."

Longshot's confused look only dims slightly. He accepts what Adam
said about him moving differently, but is perplexed by the fact that
Adam keeps refering to humans as something other than himself. "Well,
you noticed it, and you're human. So perhaps other humans notice it
too, they simply don't mention it." Longshot grins, he hopes that his
comment will make Adam not feel so set apart from others.

Adam smiles slightly again, "I noticed, but I am not human... I am
clearly not human too, yet humans seem unwilling to believe what
their senses tell them." Adam shakes his head, "blindness" he
whispers, or perhaps it was 'madness.'

Longshot looks at Adam as he walks, "You mean like 'mutants'?"
Longshot picked the word up from the article that he carried with
him. It was another word that was used over and over again. The
article made mutants sound like a danger, Longshot wasn't sure he
wanted to meet any mutants. He didn't want any more trouble.

Adam glances at Longshot, "Mutants? No, I didn't meant mutants, I
know little about mutants, though I believe I have meet some. No, the
beings I see... they have no name in human languages, but they are
here, in this world, and not in other, I don't know why," Adam
frowns, as if frustrated, "it does not matter, nobody sees them but
me. Maybe they are exist only in my mind."

Longshot wants to assure his new friend and not alienate him. "I'm
sure they exist, even if I don't see them." He smiles, "If you say
they're there, then they simply are!"

Adam chuckles, "creations of the mind maybe? You are a strange man,
Longshot, most humans would have run away from me by now, then again
most humans don't like to talk with me either."

Longshot smiles. "You said it yourself Adam, I'm not like most
humans." Longshot pats Adam on the back, something he saw two people
doing earlier that day in Times Square, he assumed it was a good
gesture (and hoped it was now that he was trying it on Adam.)

Adam nods, "no, you are not," at least not now, though Adam suspects
you never have. "I think you are better than most, Longshot, I am
glad to have met you. We are now near Columbia."

Location -- Columbia University (Low Plaza)

Adam glances briefly at the buildings of the university, he had seen
them before, but never from the ground, "this is the university, but
I suspect Dr. McTaggert won't be here at this time of the night, most
of the buildings are closed. But if you come here tomorrow morning
there is a good chance you will find her at her office, you can ask
for her at the information office in the administration building over
there."

Longshot smiles, "Thank you for all of your help Adam, it is good to
find someone so kind." Longshot looks around him taking as much in as
he can. The place is more than a little intimidating to him. "I
suppose I'll find a place close by to stay for the night, and return
in the morning. Will I see you again?"

Adam nods, "I am glad to have been able to help you, Longshot. I hope
you can talk with McTaggert tomorrow and she can help you to find
your past. I believe we will see each other again in the future,
farewell for now, and good luck."

Longshot smiles, "I'm sure I'll need all the luck I can get if I'm
ever going to find out just who, or what, I am."

Adam smiles as he walks away, "and I am sure you will."
