Keeping the levels high enough should kill the bacteria but very high
levels of sanitizer for prologed periods are recommended and that can
get hard on the equipment. Sometimes, draining the spa, cleaning the
filters and wiping the spa down with a chlorine bleach and water
solution may reduce downtime and give extra piece of mind. When
refilling, still give it a good superchlorination treatment but 10ppm
for 1 day should be sufficient to get the pipes and cracks and
crevisas of bacteria after a D&R/wipedown and filter cleaning.

Yes it could be the sanitizer levels (chlorine/bromine) levels are too
high.
It could be a bacterial infection from not enough sanitizer too.
It could also be a skin sensitivity to high/low pH and or high sanitizer.
A specific explination of the skin condition is helpful to narrowing
possible causes. Also a dermitologist can be of assistance.

There should be two buttons then. One for your light one for your pump
to toggle from low to high speed and back again. Do you have a second
button and what does it do. These buttons send an air pressure signal
to a recieving electrical switch via a small hollow plastic tube
(ussually clear or black) This tub is not hooked up to the motor
switch to toggle the motor it is hooked up to the light instead. I
assume your motor is running? Or are you just powering it up and only
the light works and the motor is completely silent? The more details
you provide me the less questions and hypotheticals we need to go thru.
In a case like this it may be wise to contact the original installer
of your latest spa pak as there could be many possibilities. I just
don't have enough to work with.

We have had our spa for about three months and thought we were maintaining the chemicals appropriately, although the chlorine level did get low for a couple of days. We use it almost daily and did use it when the chlorine level was low. A family member has developed what we believe to be hot tub folliculitis, and it actually started before the level got low. Question: is it necessary to drain it and start over, or will keeping the chlorine levels high enough kill the bacteria?
Hello,
Anyone have info about the effectiveness of solar heating panels? I
live in Eastern Canada and would like to keep my pool around 80
degrees from June till early Sep. The sales people say regardless of
sunshine, the pool will be warm as long as the air is warmer on the
roof than in the pool. Does this guarantee it will stay at 80 degrees
consistently?
Thanks for your feedback.

Bought a hot tub about a month ago and had some family over, my sister in law and nephew developed a rash. This was not the first time they were in the hot tub. Can this be from the chemicals? They have been in hot tubs before at resorts and hotels so we were wondering how this happened.
We recently purchased a hot tub and had family over, a few days later my sister
in law and nephew developed a rash. This was not the first time they were in it.
The rash is red, but not itchy. Could it be from the chemicals?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Having problems with your chemicals? Master the basics of pH (regulated buy correct alkalinity), Sanitizer like chlorine and/or bromine with regular shock or superchlorination treatments to start. You NEED NOTHING more than these basics to keep your water clean and safe. - the optional chemicals will just complicate things and confuse you.

In most cases on an electric hot tub it is the heater. If it is random
it could be a sensitive breaker, wires getting hot at breaker or
intermitent moisture. Sometimes times aggrivate GFCI breakers. I can
easily diagnose the likely culprite with a detailed list on symptomes
and a few questions. Post me a question.

If your pump has water near it it could be the motor shaft seal
leaking. This could be a simple repair if cought early enough. If
left, then risk of damage from moisture at the front bearings
increases- Much more expensive of a repair.
Yes, a good cover is important but stopping the air from comming
through your jets when your not using the spa is more important. Close
the air controls on the top of the spa when not in use. Air bubbles
through the water cause heat loss as does displacing the warm air
pocket under the cover with new air from outside.
Use baking soda 1-3 Tablespoons (doses) at a time time to raise the pH
& Alkalinity of spa water for longer results than pH up (increaser).
For a pool, 1-4 cups (fyi 4 cups is about 1kg) wait several hour to
mix and stabilize before retesting and adding more.
