I have a 2000 Wrangler with the low output 4Cyl engine. I'm told that
means I have the AX-5 transmission. I removed what appeared to be the
filler plug in preparation for a fluid change and noticed that it's
marked "DO NOT REMOVE!" Did I screw something up by removing some sort
of retaining cap? I can't find any usefull info on-line. My local
dealer is as usefull as tits on a boar hog.
The plug in question is on the driver's side of the trans, about half
way up, an inch or so towards the bell housing from the vertical plate
separating the front and rear halves, slightly forward of the mid point
of the trans. It's not a normal plug. It takes a T-55 Torx wrench. I
can see no other plug that would be the filler.

I've just recently heard of people taking the throttle body off a 4.0
and installing it on the 2.5 for a massive increase in power. You'll
need the throttle body, and all the gizmos (TPS, etc) it has attached
to it, and a spacer.
If you're not going to drive it offroad, then the things you've
listed are a good start. (Although I can't imagine having a Jeep and
not taking it offroad at some point. You CAN wash it off, you know.)

Hi everyone. I'm Dale from Alberta and I just joined the group for
something to do. Have a '98 TJ 2.5 (light blue with the hard
top). She's strictly for highway and snow because I hate getting it
dirty! Tires are slightly oversized (went from 225's to 235's) and
rigged it up with a pretty good stereo (if anyone needs a box for
10" Kicker impulses that fits just right behind the back seat let me
know. Anyway, I was wondering what anyone else has done to get a
little more jam out of the little 4 wanker. I am looking at an
electric fan, K & N air filter and some Bosch Platinum +4 spark
plugs. Please advise. Thanks.
Hi everyone. Love the site and thought that I
would join. I have a '97 TJ, 2.5L 3.73 gearing. I put a
2" trailmaster suspension lift into it and am
running Hankook 31x10.5 dynamic ATs. It is a light jade
with a spice top and interior. I have front tow hooks
and transfer case armor. Future plans include a Warn
8000lb winch, more armor, extra off road lights, and a
new front bumper. I am also looking at either new
differential gearing or a new transfer case (more likely). If
anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.
hey, if you have a fold n tumble rear seat you
can buy a universal in bed tire carrier pretty
cheap.. make sure the mounts don't drill into your gas
tank, but you can mount your tire in there for your
trail ride, then unbolt it and take it out. also, if
you can find someone who's good at welding or
fabrication, you can probably get a custom bumper/ carrier
combo pretty cheap
hello all. the jeep and i just got back from a
trip to merritt. definetly fit in among the crowd. did
anyone else go? it was so awesome. anyways. got really
really dirty...as always! i hope to post a few more pics
of mud sometime this week.

leesh
Thanks, I didn't get as many (Pics) as I wanted
since we were having such a blast. I can tell you that
you will find some exceptional trails through an area
called Gallaghers Canyon. I'll try to get the names of
some of the other trails we went through. Make sure to
take a lot of Pics. I'm heading down towards south
West Alberta to do some camping this weekend. Lots of
good 4x4ing! My brother is bringing his 89 YJ Sahara
and I'm taking the Cherokee so hopefully next week
I'll have a few more good pics to post. As soon as I
recover from my Kelowna hangover I'll post a few
interesting stories about the trip. Anyway Jeepknights, have
a good trip and good jeepin' to you and
yours.
kliffranger
wow nice pics! it sure was a nice weekend to hit
kelowna. i hope this weekend will be just as nice. any
tips or directions for hitting the trails up there?
what would you grade them as? lets hear stories!!
hey everyone. Just got back from kelowna today.
What an awesome time......the weather was perfect, the
beach was pumpin' and we was jeepin'. I drove the
Cherokee out to Kelowna and as usual it performed
outstanding in all traffic conditions. When we arrived in
Kelowna we took the top off a friend's TJ and took it
down to Gallager's Canyon for the day. Sweet 4x4
trails all over. A little tricky since there's a lot of
sand around the area. Our pilot, Ben, was very
familiar with the area and managed to sneek his TJ in and
out of corners and between trees that left the hair
standing on the back of my neck. We took a bunck of
pictures and I'm getting them developed today so I'll post
them this week. Hope everybody is having as jeepin' of
a summer as i am.

Cheers
Kliffranger
well jeep fans it has been a while since any
postings...i guess everyone has been so busy cruising around
in the wonderful sun we have been having the last
week or so. yes..sun, beer and jeeps...who could want
anything more!
Alrighty JeepKnights...
Tuesday July 4th...all
Jeepers that are going to be in the Kelowna area meet at
a Bar called Flashback's. We'll discuss trail
options over wobbly pops and tear it up this summer.
Some people have luck carrying thier 33's on the
stock carrier with no affect, but often, over time the
weight of the large tire causes the tailgate to sag and
develop cracking.
There are aftermarket carriers that
are attached to a custom rear bumper and therefore
attached to the frame of the Jeep. These can be kind of
pricey and I've noticed most Jeepers just use the stock
carrier and deal with any problem when and if it occurs.
Some don't even carry a spare, they use an instant
tire plug kit and have a tank of compressed air or
compressor installed in the engine compartment.
ok so i dont know what to believe because people
have been telling me that the stock yj tire carrier
will not support the spare 33 for my jeep but if not
then how the heck are all those other people carrying
their mudders? anyone know the answer?

leesha
hey i think we are heading to okanogan too in the
beginning of july. Actually i think the jeep jamborie is
being held there around that time so there must be some
pretty wicked trails. Id be interested to know as well.
I just put the sony xplode cd player in my jeep as
well. I need better speakers though because its a
pretty powerful deck.

Yeah so if anyone knows
about the trails there id love to hear about it too.

Later.
leesha.
I am owned by a 1995 Moss Green Jeep XJ Sport. I
was a bit of a foreign sports car nut until a buddy
took me out in his 1987 YJ Islander Edition and I've
got to say, the thrills I used to get taking fast
corners didn't compare to the thrill of treking through
mountain terrain in a jeep. I traded in the VW and bought
myself a Jeep and have never looked back. It's pretty
stock right now, I have the 4.0 engine and a few power
option fetures that are kinda nice. I put a new stereo
in (Sony Xplode) cuz that particular year of XJ
Sport didn't come with a CD player. I am in the process
of adding tow hooks and some under body armor this
summer and am planning more Mods in late fall. I'm
heading out to party in the Okanogan for 10 days in
July...anyone want to let me in on a few good
trails.

Cheers
Kliffranger
Maybe everyone can add a few words about their
Jeeps, or post a pic in the photo section . .

My
Jeep is a 1995 YJ, Rio Grande edition. It's powered by
a mighty 2.5L 4cyl. and bolted to its model AX-5
5-speed manual transmission. Essentialy it is as stock of
a Jeep as you will find. When it's clean, the Moss
green (dark green) paint shines. I sit as comfortably
as a Jeeper can be in the spice (tan) interior when
I drive around looking for new places to jeep. I've
added tow hooks in the front, a lock on the hood, just
got a CB and antenna, a hitch in the back is coming
soon, a Warn HS9500i winch upfront is planned for next
year along with a pair of KC lights, and I wish I
could afford a set of mud tires for the trails.
That's the basics on my Jeep .. .What is everyone else
have . .
I could write a book on the possibilities with
Jeep tops, this is just the beginning. It might seem
confusing, so you might have to read this twice...any
questions just email or message me and I'll help, I seem to
have become a jeep top expert. .haha
Jeep makes two
different styles of soft top for the YJ. One that uses full
doors, and one that uses half doors. full doors won't
work at all on the half door version but half doors
can be made to work with the full door
version.(confused yet)

The top and doors from YJ's and
CJ-7's are interchangable, (somtimes with minor
modification, I can write another page on this if you'd like
!!)

Your full doors you have now should fit. Since you
changed tubs, they just need to be adjusted. Whenever
doors from one jeep are put on the body of another,
chances are they will need to be adjusted. Usually they
will not close properly onto the latch and do not have
an even gap between the door and the body.
To fix
this you will need a helper to hold the door while you
loosen the 3 screws on each door hinge. It may take a
few tries at positioning the door and tightening the
screws to get the gap around the door just right, and
the latch to line up close to the striker pin, (does
not need to be perfect yet)
Now, if your doors
have paddle style door handles, this will work to get
the doors to close on the pin. There is a striker pin
mounted to the body where the door closes. You will need
a
large torx bit socket, either size t45 or t50
or t55 to loosen this pin. Once loose, move it
around to where it needs to be, once again this might
take a few tries, then your doors should fit
good.

My door preferences. .if you decide to get new
doors, find a set of YJ full doors, they are easier to
find in good shape and I like the roll up windows
better than the zip up plastic. I plan to get bestop
two-piece canvas doors to use for "quick cover" they will
work with the full door soft top. half doors were not
worth the extra cost to me. .full door version top is
also a better value at $575 + tax vs. $850 + tax for
half door version. Hope this helped and did not
confuse you, I know it was a lot to read and I did not
even get into the aftermarket choices (not worth it).
.
I'll tell you about my jeep in the next post.. .this
one is long enough as it is
I do need a soft top but i think id get the black
when i do get one. I didnt know that they dont work
with full doors though. why not? I need yj doors too.
Currently I have the cj full doors but they dont line up
properly...do you recomend getting the yj full or half
doors?

ps. i dont think you ever told me about your jeep.
I've decided to sell my soft top. you would need
half doors for it to work. it is the spice colour and
complete with all hardware, frame, all screws&bolts, the
top, upper door halves, even the instruction pages and
all windows except the driverside quarter. it was
destroyed when the Jeep was broken into. the top was new
last year and only used 4 months. I paid $850 + tax
new and will sell it for $650. I'll even ship it out
to you. or make me an offer. I've decided to get a
top that will work with full doors, its arriving
tomorrow from Richmond BC. (the last YJ top kit in Canada
that is not black !!)
Yeah. When i bought the jeep the old body was
totally rusted out so we went to the wrecker and picked
the yj one up for about $700. The windsheild and hard
top are yj as well but I am still in the process of
getting yj doors...the cj ones don't fit that quite
right. The tub is all undercoted and rhino lined as
well. It was much easier doing it when the tub was off
and only cost about $200 to do.
