The "please register" is my way of making the demo unusable for live
use. Once you purchase Kenaxis this goes away. You make a good point
that this is nebulous so I will change it to "please purchase" in
future versions.
As for using Kenaxis on multiple machines. I am happy to give out a
reasonable number of unlock codes for those users that have multiple
machines and to provide updated unlock codes as users purchase new
machines.

Hi Stefan,
I've been trying out the Kenaxis demo, very nice. Thank you for making
the PC version available.
I had some licensing questions, the first one might be dumb but
overall perhaps posting here could save you an email or two.
The "please register" prompt, does that mean please purchase a
licensed copy or is there a registration of the demo which turns off
the prompt and then you know who is using the demo?
From the manual: "use one copy of the specified version of the
Software and the accompanying documentation (the "Documentation") on
any computer you personally own as a private individual"
After purchase can I load my licensed copy into several personal
computers that would be used by myself but only one Kenaxis at any
given time? I purchased some piano software that allows this, it is
very convenient. Or is a new license needed for each computer Kenaxis
is on.
My computer situation is very much in flux. If only one instance per
license can be used, how do you approach transfer to a different machine?
thank you,
Matt
Announcing Kenaxis 3.02 for Mac and 3.0 for PC.
Kenaxis 3 has a bevy of new features including on-line help,
adjustable crossfades in the Klangs for click free looping. A unique
negative crossfade that puts space in between the loops. Audio-rate
pitch modulation and a number of interface improvements. I think you
will really like it. A PC version is also finally ready. (Make sure to
read the readme for the PC version.)
Also I have a new website with an exciting new artist spotlight
feature. If you use Kenaxis and would like to be included just send me
an email at stefan@... and I will let you know what I need.
In other exciting news - Electronic Musician is reviewing Kenaxis as
part of an article on granular synthesis.
All the best,
Stefan
PS - Kenaxis 3.02 adds the ability to mute a Klang and send its
outputs to channels 3&4 on a multichannel audio interface so that you
can monitor your sounds before adding them to the main mix.
Hello Kenaxis Folk,
Just an FYI that I will be using an extensive application of Kenaxis
this Saturday night in San Francisco on the AudioBus, a double-decker
bus equipped with headphones. The first tour last month was sold out
and very entertaining! For more information, go to the webpage below
(and follow the Soundwave>Series 3 link). Should be good fun, this is
what I think Kenaxis is really good at!

A new version of Kenaxis is now available for download. A few bugs are fixed
including
compatibility with Pluggo Plugins is now possible.
MIDI control is expanded and support for multiple joystick models has been
added.
Most exciting is the ability for realtime convolution. Using the convolution
menu you can
switch Klangs 5 and 6 to convolution output instead of normal output and
convolve the loops
in Klangs 5 and 6 with each other. You can also convolve a live input with Klang
6.
Enjoy,
Stefan

There is the possibility of adding wii control into Kenaxis and it is on the to do list as well as adding OSC control. Perhaps by the end of the summer as I am now focusing on a PC version.

Changed the keyboard shortcuts in the extras menu so that they do not conflict with the standard copy, cut, paste, undo shortcuts. This was necessary for PC compatibility as well.
Changed the way files load using a new algorithm for PC compatibility. You should see no difference.
Added the ability to configure Kenaxis to work with any joystick or USB Human Interface controller. Open the Joystick window and select configure joystick. There are presets for the Wingman RumblePad and the Logictech Dual Action. If any of you configure Kenaxis to work with other joysticks I would love a screen shot of the joystick configure page and the name of the joystick/controller so that I can add more presests.
Added the ability to use up to 96 channels of MIDI for use with multiple MIDI controllers.
Added a way to customize which notes or cc#s trigger Klangs to play/pause, record, retrigger from start in the MIDI window.
Added a shortcut to load one file or folder into all klangs and the granulator that are currently not playing. (Drag a file onto the X of the word KenaXis.) Press command R to quickly select a random selection of files all from the same folder!
Improved speed of preset loading.
Delay mix is no longer stored in a preset. This seems to make for more natural transitions when loading presets while playing.
There are now new versions of Kenaxis available for download on the web.
The PC version is coming very soon I hope. eMail me if you want to be a beta
tester of the
current version. - stefan@...http://www.kenaxis.com/downloads/downloads.html

Hello,
I have just posted Kenaxis 2.34 and Kenaxis VBAP 1.21.
Not only are a number of small bugs fixed in these versions but the major bug
that
occasionally kept Kenaxis from even opening with the new system updates has been
fixed.
Also there is a new updated manual included that describes the new basunera
functions and
in Kenaxis the new live in fx.
Go to http://www.kenaxis.com/downloads/downloads.html to download the latest
versions.
Also for those of you in Vancouver I am performing with vocalist Viviane Houle,
dancer Noam
Gagnon, and visual artist Jamie Griffiths, live with Kenaxis VBAP and an 8
channel system on
June 1st and 2nd. Go to http://lotfive.ca/Home.html for more info.

There is an issue with the PACE system used by Max/MSP (The programming language
that
Kenaxis was written in) and some of the recent Apple updates. Here is a page
from the Max/
MSP folk with directions how to fix it.

Option 2 is much faster.
Sorry for any inconvenience,

Thanks for the warning!
Do you know if we'll be ok with Leopard ?

Hi Stefan,
I don't want to post an off topic message without your blessing. But
since the users of Kenaxis and K-VBAP would most likely be interested,
may I announce an electronic music festival here?
Cheers,
Bill
Hi Melissa,
I'm happy to give out a reasonable number of authorizations. Of
course you can have one for you tower and one for your portable. If
you get a new computer I am also happy to give out new authorizations.
The new UC-33s may have a slightly different setup but most likely
you can pretty much just plug it in - select it as the input device
in the MIDI control menu and away you go.
For your last question - just to clarify if you mean one pair of
monitors - 2 speakers total - then Kenaxis is more than enough. If
you want more than 2 speakers then you need Kenaxis VBAP. You can
always get both at the reduced rate or later add Kenaxis VBAP at a
discount.
Hope that helps,
Stefan

Hi Stephan
I met you in Eugene when you performed with a friend of mine...Kurt Doles. Well
I was so
impressed with what you have down with Kenaxis, that I decided to purchase it,
along with
a UC-33 controller. VBAP is also on my list as well.
My questions....
1. Can you use the purchased license on more than one computer? I have a
desktop Mac
that is my main computer but when I travel I use my Powerbook. I would like
them on
both. Is that possible with purchase or is there a limit to how many computers
I can have
Kenaxis on?
2. You state in your guide that the UC-33 is the default controller. Does that
mean its a
plug and play or do I still have to assign it within the preferences?
3. If I want movement between a stereo pair of monitors, would VBAP work
better?
Again, I look forward to many hours of creative fun with this tool.
Take care and all the best

Hi Bill,
I am happy to give out a reasonable number of unlock codes for Kenaxis and
Kenaxis VBAP - this
includes codes for both PC and Mac once the PC version is ready.
Share-it is a company that deals with the financial end for many shareware and
independent software
programmers. You do not need to setup a permanent account. They make it easy for
people from
many countries to pay in a number of different ways.
Kenaxis is very efficient - running at about 10% of the processor on a Intel
Core Duo 2 GHz machine.
Kenaxis VBAP requires about double that at about 22% of the processor load. This
leaves plenty of
room to run various VST effects.

Greetings,
I just authorized this list on my Spam Arrest account so I hope this
goes through without the moderator or members seeing an annoying
challenge message.
Hi Stefan,
I thought that I'd ask my questions here rather than on Loopers Delight
so that there would be a record of your answers on this list where it
would benefit current and future members.
I am waiting for the PC version of VBAP to be released before I buy.
1. When one buys VBAP and/or Kenaxis, will they get both PC and MAC
versions or only one? While I am currently a PC guy, I may get a MAC in
the future and wouldn't want to buy my favorite programs twice.
2. I am unfamiliar with Share-It. Is it something like PayPal that I
would have to join?
3. I am running softsynths and VST effects on my laptop inside of
energyXT. I hope to be able to run VBAP at the same time. It might be
too soon for you to tell but... How much processing power does VBAP take?
Cheers,
Bill
New Versions of Kenaxis and Kenaxis VBAP are now available for download.
Changes include:
Minor bugs have been fixed.
Granulator can now use 12 voices each for a total of 48 voices.
Presets files can be changed by using the keyboard - a = preset 1, b= preset 2,
z = preset
26.
You can recall the 5 presets inside a preset file by using the number keys 1-5
and store
presets by using shift 1-5 (!@#$%).
You can also change presets using MIDI program change commands as determined in
the
MIDI setup window.
The basuneras have been slightly redesigned. They now use a pull down menu to
choose
how they behave. You can use it in single file loop mode as was the default or
play a folder
of files in random or sequential order.
Please let me know if you there are any bugs or weird clicks or any other
issues. I'm a one
man software team and its impossible to catch everything. A universal version
will
hopefully be ready soon.
I've also just started a podcast. Be great to have you check it out. (Website -

I have been using Kenaxis and Kenaxis VBAP for some weeks with no problem. It's
on a MAC
iBook G4 with m-audio firewire 410 and Nobels MF-2 foot midi controller
interfaced via the
firewire 410.
I was using Kenaxis (not VBAP) today in conjunction with a Plogue Bidule setup
which was
sharing input & output audio (not using rewire) and midi. All was going well
for some hours,
then Kenaxis crashed. Not really a problem in itself, but it wouldn't restart.
After unplugging
everything, stopping everything and restarting the iBook it still wouldn't
load/start. I
discovered that VBAP also wouldn't start. I then deleted Kanaxis and VBAP and
downloaded
them again from the website. Still they wont start. I repaired permissions and
looked in the
library for any left-over preferences or settings but can't find anything.
When I click the application logo I get the splash screen for a few seconds then
OSX says the
application has crashed.
Please help!
Hey Stefan,a couple kenaxis related things.1 is the
vsti midi response is not quite right i'ts doin the
same thing it did a few versions ago were polyphony is
very limited and sustain acts wierdly.2 i down loaded
pluggo light and when i try to use them they block all
audio output.3 is just an idea. How hard would it be to
send the tap tempo to the delay?perhaps with options
for different beat subdivisions maybe even seperately
assignable for left and right.anyway kenaxis rocks i'm
using it tons lately and the upgrades are
awesome.cheers CK

As per requests - I've added a few features to the analog synth. It now has a
VST plugin -
which can also be used as a VST instrument. There is the option of choosing a
MIDI controller
to control the VSTi, sine generator or noise generator. You can also use a small
built in
keyboard to control any of these.
For added ease the keyboard can be played by using the computer keyboard. Press
the caps
lock down and ASDFGHJKL are the white keys and QWRTYIOP are the black keys.
Volume is
controlled from off to loudest by ZXZCV.
If you wanted to setup a sampler instrument as a VSTi you could then use the
computer
keyboard to trigger those samples.

Kenaxis is now at Version 2.24
Kenaxis VBAP is now at 1.14
http://www.kenaxis.com/downloads/downloads.html
Some very cool new features have been added.
1st - there is a new copy protection system. Those of you who have paid for
Kenaxis and
Kenaxis VBAP will once again have to give me a computer id#. Note this is a new
number
now. Also - I have finally figured out how to save this info in the preferences
folder so you
will never have to do this again for future updates. (Less work for you and me.)
Now for the improvements...
Hitting command R gives you one pulse of random changes. The changes are
determined
by your Klang Random and Gran Random settings but instead of continuous change -
you
get one change when you want it. Klang Random also finally uses the length of
the file to
set loop widths. (Its now a percentage instead of a set loop width in
milliseconds that you
are changing.)
Pressing command T randomizes the files loaded in your klangs. It randomly loads
a new
file from the drop down menu list. For example you have a folder with 7 sounds
in it and
you drop this on the Klang. You can now see those 7 sounds in the drop down
menu.
Pressing T loads a random sound from this list. This allows you to very quickly
change the
set of sounds you are working with.
There is now also a new variable... "Global Control Modifier" This number
changes the
amount that the Randoms or MIDI or Joystick control change the variables. For
instance -
normally the MIDI control values for a Klangs pitch are from -1 to 3 - this is
still the case
if the GCM = 1. If the GCM = 2 then the values go from -2 to 6. If GCM = 0.5
then values
are from -0.5 to 1.5. This allows you to quickly change how much control you
have of the
variables.
Command F opens the Filter and Delay window.
Last change is in the standard MIDI setup. On the UC-33 - fader 8 now controls
the FX
send delay (new feature) with the top knob controlling the GCM thus you can
quickly
change the way the MIDI controller changes values by adjusting the top right
knob.
Also fixed a bug where if you were recording into the granulator weird things
would
happen with the waveform display.
Enjoy these new features and let me know if you run into any problems.
Stefan
Just wanted to let you know that http://www.kenaxis.com/ is up and running. If
you go to
the site you can also download the latest versions of Kenaxis (2.22) and Kenaxis
VBAP (1.11)
both revisions newly posted this morning, and the manual!
The manual does not include Kenaxis VBAP features but everything including some
fairly
hidden features of Kenaxis are revealed.
Enjoy,
Stefan
