Since I had to go out on deck anyway, I took a tape with me. And on the s/v Marie, Niagara 35, the answer is 7 feet from the cockpit sole to the bottom of the boom....give or take a few inches depending how you like to set the sheets and the boom topping lift.

There is a large difference between Classic and Encore prices. Classic (Mark I) designs seem to rarely hit $100k whereas nearly all Encores in decent shape are easily over C$100k. I have seem many going for C$120k+ and even a few in the C$135k range.

No problem with your message.
The listing prices at the moment seem to be "all over the map", from very low
for poor condition to over 100,000 for those in stellar condition. The last time
I looked, not too long ago, the average seemed to be between 80 and 90 thousand
US.
If I were you, I would start by making a list of years and prices listed on
Yachtworld, and any other sites you find, then find the average of those that
are near your year. To get the full list on Yachtworld, make sure that you
search Hinterhoeller, as well as Niagara 35. You can always go down in price, so
don't start too low.
Good luck

George, there is a N35 manual in the files section on our webpage. The owners' manual that we have is not specific to the Encore. I don't know if they ever created a specific Encore manual. Does anyone have one?

Thank you for replying. The boat I'm looking at has a Westerbeke W-33. I've seen the spec.'s for the Yanmar 40 and the Volvo 40. The key issue in a repower is the cost of modifications to the boat to accomodate the new engine and whetehr the existing transmission can be reused.
Would it be possible to put me in touch with either or both of the other owners so that I might compare notes?

We chose Universal and are still working to solve our vibration issues. Not recommended. We know 2 owners who are happy with Yanmar 40s.
I've been on before asking about sailing characteristics - stiff, tender, etc. and you've been most helpful. We are still negotiating for the 1958 Encore #211 we've spotted. The Westerbeke 33 was conpressioned tested last week. It showed 200 psi in each cylinder vs. the 370 psi that is the factory specification. So one option is to rebuild. The other is to repower.
I recall that someone had repowered with a Westerbeke, possibly a 35 or 40. Would whoever did repower or has experience contemplating repowering please let em know. I'd like to compare notes as I consider the choice of rebuild vs. repower. Thanks.

Hi everyone,
You can buy a plastic welding torch for around $100. It uses hot air and
as I recall runs on 120V AC. You can buy a variety of rods for
different types of plastic. I have seen one but not used it so I don't
know how tough a vertical weld would be. That's all I know about it so
if someone else knows more ...

Yes. We initiated the discussion over a crack in our stbd tank. Look in the archives for new tank sources, at considerable cost, or my Home Depot patch that is still holding after three seasons. I used flexible rain gutter patches plus a high grade sealant (Home Depot for a couple bucks). If you find an
answer, I'd like to know too! I certainly don't use it for a hanging
locker. I suspect the anti-siphon loop valve in my case, there has been some
leakage occasionally. It needs to be washed down when that happens. I may
have to reconfigure the drainage to have a vent line run from the valve on
top of the anti-siphon loop.

Another thought I had is that the bilge needs proper ventilation. Somebody I talked to installed small computer type milliamp fan(s) to draw air out from the bilge continuously. When was the last time you changed out all the hoses in your head system? In most cases, folks haven’t ever changed them out, they become permeated, and those odors become an issue. Funny how our wives notice it first. ;-)

Make sure the vented loop is working properly. The vent on the
top of the loop needs to be serviced from time to time. Also, check that the
vent line is not a clear hose. They let the smell through.
