My name is David Barker and I'm a member of the 1st Holland Landing
Black Knights Rover Crew (based in Newmarket and surrounding areas)
and 1st York Region EMS Medical Venturers/Rovers. It's my job to keep
my crew informed and I figured the best way to do it was through
channels like this one. So we're looking to become more aware of
events (as my crew hasn't done much rover-related events for years,
but more area events and community ones). Hoping to make some good
contacts here, some local so far off! I've tried to find info about
the Shining Waters Round Table, but to no avail. Does it still exist?
Hoping to get to know you guys a bit better!
Yours in Rovers,
- David Barker

Hello all,
I have just uploaded to the files section of this group a WOSM
survey I received from the Australian Rovers. If you could take
some time, fill it out, and send it in to WOSM, the feedback would
be invaluable. If you have any trouble opening it, please let me
know!

Dear friends,
I would like to wish all of you a great year, full of
activities in the framework of the Scouting Centenary.
One of the challenges for this year, at world level,
is to have ready the World Rover Guidelines in order
to revitalize this section and to make it attractive
to more young people around all over the world, based
in the needs and characteristics of the them; as part
of this work we are collecting information about the
Rover section worldwide (National Rover Programmes,
events, activities, forums, web communities, etc).
Please find attached a small "survey" - aims to have a
glance of what is happening in the different Scout
Regions and National Scout Organizations in terms of
Adolescents & Young Adults (Rovers).
This will allow us to have a better "picture" of what
is going on and maybe will motivate some exchange.
I would like to have your help on this, please feel
free to use the attached document and to distributed
among your Scout friends, web-communities and contact
list.
If you have any comments please don't hesitate to
contact me.

Hi Moderators,
You can change the group settings so new members are not allowed to
post without you first approving their messages, so you can delete
spammers when they join. It's easy to take a new member off the
moderated list if you know that the person is a real human being. Log
into Yahoo Groups and click the "Settings" tab on the left, the
setting is in there somewhere. It's a handy feature.

Just a reminder that the Nominations for the Roland S Dell Memorial
Award for 2006 are due December 31st. I've included some details
below.
Let me know if there are any questions.
Thanks.
==================================
Do you know a Rover, Advisor or Crew who has rendered exceptional
service to Rovering, Scouting and to their community? Why not
nominate them for the R.S. Dell Award?
This award has been presented annually to individuals and groups who
have striven to provide such a level of service that even within a
service-minded community, their peers cannot help but be inspired.
Roly Dell, of 1st Niagara, devoted himself to Scouting, Rovering and
his community for over thirty years, and this award has been
presented in his memory since 1982. Roly's sense of commitment,
honour, dignity, and service has been regarded as a model for
innumerable men and women.
Anyone may submit a nomination for the award. All nominations stand
for three years from the date they are received. The nominated party
must be a Rover, Rover Advisor, or Crew currently registered with
Scouts Canada in Central Canada Division.
The nominations deadline for this year is December 31, 2006. Please
send all nominations to:

Hi everybody,
At Ancient Moot this weekend I had a conversation with a few people
about ScoutEH and it's work to try to resuscitate Scouts Canada.
I mistakenly gave out the wrong web site address to the people I was
talking to, and provided a URL that doesn't lead to anything. The
correct address for the ScoutEH web site is http://www.scouteh.ca .
Hopefully this message reaches the people I was chatting with as they
were very interested in getting involved.
For anyone else interested in figuring out how to improve Scouts
Canada, take a look and see what you think. - Ali
On behalf of the Rover Scouts Association and the Kudu Rover Crew of Bardstown, KY, USA, I offer sincerest condolences to his family, his crew and all who loved him.

past rangers and their spouses and children.

hope to see you all there......
Congratulations to Al Griffin from Ottawa on receiving the Roland S
Dell Memorial Award for 2005. Al received the award during a
surprise presentation at the Rover Scout Venturer Promotional (RSVP)
Camp held in early May. It was especially fitting since this camp is
run by the Voyageur Regional Rover Round Table (VRRRT), and there
were many Rovers and Advisors present to see Al being honoured.
This award has been presented annually since 1982 by the Rovering
Community on behalf of the Dell family. All previous recipients sit
on the Judging Committee, and it is awarded to individuals and
groups `who have striven to provide such a level of service that,
even within a community of service-committed people, their peers
cannot help but be inspired'.
Here are some key reasons why the Judging Committee selected Al as
the 2005 recipient.
Since coming to Canada in 1954, Al has held a number of Scouting
positions and is currently active with the 112th Nepean Rover Crew
and the Scouting Museum in Ottawa. Keeping with his strong belief in
continuous training, Al has completed his Wood Badge in almost every
section. He is also an active trainer for Company and Crew Wood
Badges. In 2002, Al received the Silver Acorn from Scouts Canada.
Al has always promoted Rovers. He has been active in all
incarnations of Round Tables in the Ottawa area, including VRRRT. In
1987, he helped start RoVent as a linking activity between Rovers and
Venturers, and this camp continues today with over 100 participants
each year.
Al has been a friend, an Advisor and a mentor to many Rovers and
Leaders, even after they moved on and away. He is always talking up
Rovers at Scouters Clubs and other sections and telling people what
its members are up to.
From the nomination submission, it reads: `I believe that Al is most
deserving of the RS Dell Award. His years of service to Rovering in
Canada are not easily surpassed. He is a shining example of the
Rover Motto of "Service".
Do you know someone in Rovering who has rendered exceptional service
to Scouting and to their community? Why not nominate them for this
award? The nominated party must be a Rover, Rover Advisor, or Crew
currently registered with Scouts Canada in Central Canada. Anyone
may submit a nomination for the award, and all nominations will stand
for three years. Nominations must be mailed by December 31st to R.S.
Dell Memorial Award, c/o 120 Ottawa Street North, P.O. Box #43113,

Rovering To Excess is an online magazine for Canadian Rovers to
share ideas and stay connected. It is published bimonthly and we
need your help.
This issue does include some reader feedback, so I hope you will
take a few moments and fill out our nomination form for the Roger
Awards and recognize the important work other Rovers are doing to
develop and promote Rovering in Canada.
We are looking for some volunteers to help us grow in the coming
year. Contributions of articles and photos are most desperately
needed. We also hope this year to introduce a online subscription
feature for the magazine which some readers have been asking for
which would allow us to notify our readership immediately when new
issues are available. Is there someone out there willing to help us
with this? Other positions are available as well, so check out our
Call for Staff in this issue.

Thank you all for accepting me as a member of your group. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Robert Frank, RS and I am a member of both the Rover Scout Association and US Rovers. I was recently warranted Historian of US Rovers and hope to serve in the same or a related capacity in RSA.
As historian, I am of course interested to learn anything I can regarding the history of Rovering and of Scouting in general, especially in the early years. There are many publications concerning the history of Scouting in the UK and in the USA. There seem to be fewer concerning the rest of the Commonwealth and I have found none at all concerning Rovering.
If there is anyone out there who is aware of an authoritative history of Rovering, I would be in your debt to learn its title. If there is not, it would be useful to know someone who can help me wade through the vast
number of websites devoted to the subject.
Sorry if you get this twice, or thrice.
The Rover Scouts Association will publish a R.S. Handbook along the lines of
combining “Scouting for Boys,” and “Rovering to Success” in a contemporary
presentation. It will not be association specific, so if you would like to
contribute a chapter to it, we would love to have you on board.
We also need an editor…
R.S.A. plans on publishing this handbook and making it available on Amazon,
and Barnes and Noble. Be a part of Rovering history.
If you have specific knowledge and are interested in working on this
project, please take the poll at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/roverscouts/polls and tell us what you can
write about. We will edit it for content, so don't worry if your grammar
