This came across on the Coursing Groups and I wanted to spread the word.

At the end of December, a local kennel donated 12 cases of Kirkland canned
Lamb and Rice dog food. They said it was too rich for their dog because they
all got sick. Did not think any problem with the food. I fed to my dogs, and
to visiting dogs. Diarrhea for all dogs, puppy threw up 15 times. She
survived...Tesla and Dino did not. I contacted the company on Jan.3 to say
all dogs got sick. They said they did not produce that food. Four weeks
later, one dead dog, next week, another dead dog. Finally got a response
with...tell Costco. I contacted Costco, and then they contacted the
manufacturer. Who wants a sample of the food. Mind you...this similar food
was recalled in 2007-2009 for melamine contamination. Over 400 dogs died. I
filed a report and waiting for request for the sample of food.

I need to put out a warning of possible food contamination. ...is not
verified yet...but the vet and I feel it will be. The*Kirkland Canned Lamb
and Rice with expiration 2013. The cans I have say June 23, 2013*. Please
let your friends know. It would have been purchased in Nov.-Dec. 2012.
Please anyone that has a can to contact me directly. Do not return to
Costco. We need to let everyone know so more dogs don't die.

HHGA differs from many adoption groups, in that they move mainly farm dogs - racers who have returned to the farm, broods, and pups whose destiny isn't the track. Please visit the HHGA website to see the waiting hounds at the kennel and on farms, including a number of seniors:

The proceeds of this auction will be used to help fund several hauls happening over the next months, including the big annual Northwest haul. HHGA covers vetting for the dogs it sends, including the sometimes expensive cost of vetting seniors. Unlike most groups, HHGA does not charge the receiving groups for the hounds they deliver. Hi All,

I am needing help with my foster boy, Hoover, for the following dates.

April 9-16

April 28-May 5

He needs a fenced yard and I will warn you he is a happy, active boy. He plays hard but also sleeps hard!

He is 7 years old, raced until April 2010, then sat in an adoption kennel in Ft. Myers until Jo Ann sprang him last month. So Part of his activity level is just pure excitement at being "free". He gets better every day.

He is small dog safe. The adoption kennel siad he is not cat safe, but last night on a walk he hid behind me when a cat appeared, even after I told him to "get the cat" (ha, ha, sorry cat lovers, of course I would not have allowed any teeth to fur contact...)

So if you can help, I will owe you, I hate to put him in a boarding facility.

Sorry these are so close together, one is a Memorial Service for my Mom in PA and the other is the annual roller skating rink convention.

Pups on the Patio - Presented by The Green K9

Saturday, April 7th at 5:00 pm

on Ruby Street in the Downtown Tavares

Waterfront Entertainment District

Pups on the Patio is a social fundraiser for local pet rescues every 1st Saturday of each month until September 1, 2012. The next Pups on the Patio block party is Saturday, April 7th and will begin at 5:00 pm. The event takes place on Ruby Street in the Downtown Tavares Waterfront Entertainment District. Pet owners can bring their dogs to socialize while enjoying live music on the patios of participating, dog friendly restaurants.

At the first event of the season in March, $3,000 was raised between all of the ten participating pet rescue groups!

A "Pawsport" can be purchased for a $10 donation. The Pawsport entitles the purchaser to 4 alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, one at each of the following restaurants: Okeefe's Irish Pub, Ruby Street Grille, Al's Landing and Al's Dockside Barbeque. Pawsports are good anytime until 12/31/12 and can be purchased at The Green K9 and all participating businesses.

100% of proceeds benefit local pet rescue groups and the Cornerstone Hospice Pet Peace of Mind Program. Visit the following groups who will be on hand to meet and greet a few of their wonderful pets available for adoption: South Lake Animal League, Houndhaven, Greyhound Pets of America Senior Sanctuary, Max's Pet Connection, Florida Boxer Rescue, VIP Rescue, The Cat Protection Society, Cinagro Farms Rescue, Buddies Thru Bullies and Ruff Times Rescue. Each group will be raffling prizes. Drawings will be held at 8:00 pm. Winners do not need to be present to win.

The Green K9 and O'Keefe's Restaurant will host a dog wash under a water misting and wading pool tent. Dog washes are from $5 - $15, depending on the dog's size. Nail trims by Nature's Touch Grooming are a $5 donation.

All Dogs Aboard! Join Premier Boat Tours for a Sunset Cruise with your dog from 7:15 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., departing from the dock at Al's Landing Restaurant. Tickets are $15.

Bark Busters Dog Training will delight the crowd with their Canine Dance Team performances at 6:30 and 7:30 pm in front of O'Keefe's Restaurant. Plenty of food and vendors to enjoy such as, a Pet characature Artist, Kanine Kissing Booth and free advice from Veterinarian, Christine Cassidy and Pet Behaviorist,Todd Langstrom.

All non-aggressive, leashed dogs are welcomed. When attending public dog events, pet owners should assure their dog is at least 4 months old and current on their vaccinations, including Bordatella and flea and tick preventatives.

Dear Rescue Group Volunteer:
I'm writing on behalf of the Greater Fort Myers Dog Club. We're letting
rescue groups within the Southwest Florida area know about an exciting
event that we have coming up. On Saturday, May 26, we are having a
Parade of Rescue dogs as an_official_ part of our AKC sanctioned dog
show at the Lee Civic Center in North Fort Myers, FL.
This is a non-competitive event in which the dogs MUST have been rescued
by their Owners either as a stray, from a recognized facility or from a
group/individual dedicated to Rescue work. Dogs taken back by their
breeders are not eligible. Dogs are not required to be AKC registered to
enter, but they must be an AKC recognized breed. Each dog entered will
receive a Rosette with the dog's name inscribed.
The Parade will take place in the Group ring during the Judges' lunch
break, before Group judging begins. Entrants will pre-furnish a brief
biography of the dog, which will be read by the Show Announcer as each
dog and handler has the chance to take center stage. The dog and handler
will then have an opportunity to take an individual lap around the ring
to "strut their stuff."
The goal of this event is to educate the public and bring attention to
the very important work that is done by breed rescue organizations, as
well as to recognize and honor the bond that has been forged between the
dog and its new owner, celebrating the second chance for a happy future.
Pre-entry is required. There is a $12 entry fee for each dog, which
covers the cost of the personalized Rosette. Entries are being accepted
by our dog show superintendent, MB-F. Information, along with a link to

Our "Spring For The Kuties" garage sale, benefiting PHARAOH, on the weekend
of April 27th-April 29 is coming up fast, and volunteers are still needed
for the following days:


Friday, April 27th from 5:00 pm - ??

             Several volunteers are needed to help with setting up the
merchandise.

Saturday, April 28th from 8:30 am-12:30 pm and
  12:30 pm -5:00 pm

           2 volunteers needed to help direct parking and "wave" people in to
the sale.
           2 volunteers to assist shoppers inside the sale and keep
merchandise neat.

Sunday, April 29th from 8:30 am-12:30 pm and
