Before I answer any questions there are a few things that I need to
know.
Have you ever used oil paint?
Why do you want to use acrylic in stead of oil?
How long have you been painting?
Have you a copy of the artist hand book?
What other Paint mediums have you used?
What is the subject matter of the preposed painting?
Are there any special oil techniques described in the instructions?
Is it a brush painting or dose it call for palletre knives?
Dose it mention split fountian techniques?
Do the instructions have a materials list? If so what is it?
Do the instructions mention any finnishes or varnishes?
When choosing painting mediums there are many things to consider.
Many improvments have been made to all the paint mediums over just
the last 50 years. yes you can ge acrylics to act just like oils by
adding mediums to your colours, but somes effects are impossible to
imatate. (ie. crackle) There are millions of techniques. I
found "The Artist Hand Book" to be of great help. I don't have a
current copy now but I would like to get one.(mines over 15 years
old) Try consulting that first to see if that can't help you. If
that does"nt help feel free to write back but you wiil need to be
more specific about your questions.
Finaly I would encourage you to try oils as they are far more
forgiving than acrylic as if you make a mistake (sorry there no
mistakes in creativity) you can just scrape it off and start over.

that idea with the tea light candles in the top of a
big candle. Smart.. I just joined this group today,

Hi - Have been painting on candles for about a
year. Here are some of the things I have found: (1)
White candles are best to paint on - when I tried
coloured candles, the dye in the candle eventually leached
through my painting. I have done winter scenes, mostly,
and with time, the snow turned pink, blue, etc.
However, each scene still looked good.<br>(2) I tried
Decoart Candle Medium and followed the instructions - but
the paint just beaded and looked awful. The
instructor at my painting class has the best method! Run HOT
tap water over the new candle, then rub briskly with
a rough paper towel to dry it. Then use undiluted
acrylic pain to paint your design. ( I just do this
freehand -rather than try to trace on the design) <br>(3)
Finally, I spray the entire candle with "Candle Gloss"
spray. This gives it a sheen.<br>Everyone says, " These
are too beautiful to burn!" So here is an idea from a
classmate: Let the candle burn down just enough to make a
"well" in the top which will enable you to put a
"tea-light" in. After this, you light the tea-light, and
replace it when is is exhausted. Your artwork will live
on!<br>When I give my decorated candles away, I include a
couple of tea-lights and a "snuffer", and this gift has

I have seriously thought about attempting water colors, and may do just that
after my coming up move to the west coast......hope to keep in touch and chat

portfolio at this time , but hopefully i can get that

frosted glass lamps (about 8" in height)and I bought
quite a few of them. I also found a spot on the
internet to purchase them but now I can't find them any

decorative painting for 5 years. Presently trying painting
on candles. Using DecoArt Candle Medium, following
their directions and having poor results. So tried this
- 1) sprayed with Krylon - (took days to dry) 2)
applied candle medium to entire candle - (did not cover
well) 3) applied paint. Result not great. Any
