Actually the alternate ending is Brock seeing Old Rose before she
throws the necklace overboard and tries to talk her out of it.
They're calling it Brock's Ephiphany (sp?)

Well, what size do you need? Some sizes are harder to find than others. But I must tell you, the Simplicity pattern for the Swim gown isn't excactly accurate, it needs modifying or else you get a "pregnant look" from the dress and the pattern only has 3 layers.

I'm attempting to make the "sinking" dress or "swim" dress. I know
that simplicity made a pattern for it some time ago, but I can't seem
to find one my size. Does anyone know where I would find one?
Hi everyone!
This is an amazingly cool group and im so glad that i found it! I
adore clothing. Mostly different period clothing and I was so
impressed with the costumes in titanic! wow! not only is it one of my
favorite movies but the costumes are magnificent! I'm hoping to be
making the sinking dress and flying dress for my own! So i hope that
this group will be a lot of fun and a lot of help!
Bye!

Hi Lauren!
I know what you mean about the hair. I'm tranparent white in skin tone
and have golden blond hair. Yet it seams that all the character's I
want to portray have brown hair (Arwen, Padmé). Go figure.
The dinner dress is a great choice, it is really gorgeous. It is
actually fairly simple to make if you can draw patterns. It is a basic
dress, I'm guessing empire waist, with a square neckline. So you would
ne a coral coloured dress first and then a another dress in dark red
veil like fabric, that is slit on one side. you can either make the
oblique panels one by one or bead your dress to make it to an angle.
I hope it's clear. It makes sense in my hear, but writting it down is
tougher.
You can do a google search for "Diner Dress 1912", you'll find lots of
info. Also, I have found these usefull links for Titanic like dresses
in general.

(Great historic patterns)
http://www.sensibility.com/titanic/patternsources/
(A page to find patterns for alot of the titanic dresses).
You might also find the jump dress easier to make (patterns easier to
find).

One of the things you could try..... most of the Pattern companies now have great costume sections...is find something close to what your wanting to make. Then Add to your creation the things you think it need to make it look like what you want. The other place to try is Alteryears.com they have everything from new stuff to Medieval Patterns. I am sure that you could find a good *Base* Pattern to make your dress. You can also mix and match pattern peices from differnt dresses to get *Just the right look* I did that with the Jump Dress. That is going to be my Wedding dress. I found the Basic pattern.....and then went from there. Though I dont copy.....to took the idea and then used fabrics that I wanted.... Scarlett Thai Silk... it was too fun.... I hope that you have fun too.

thing. Titanic is a beautiful movie.(It's one of the few movies in
Hollywood where the main lady is beautiful w/curly hair. I'm mixed so
i hate it when the only people with curly hair are the nerds in
movies.) I've fallen in love with the dinner dress! I can't find a
pattern though. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hiya!
Well I see there are some new members so welcome. You are always
encouraged to present yourself to the rest of the group.
So I was wondering what everybody's projects were concerning Titanic
and other edwardian costumes. Has anyone made on yet? I would sure
like you to share your experience and maybe some pictures.
For my part, my sinking gown was set aside while I work on other
projects, but I think I'll try to make it for halloween.

my real name is james but my friends call me jamie. I am a female impersonateror illusionest as some call it theses days and my stage name is Brittany Nicole. i have worked off and own for right at 20 years as a female impersonater/make up artist/costume designer.
currently im preparing to make either rose's jump dress or heaven dress not sure now which. i am doing the celein dion song my heart will go on from the titanic sound track but in the illusion of rose for an up comeing show. now im trying to figure out which dress would most suite the illusion and the song. the instrumential of the song or the begining of the song is heard sevral time in the movie at diffrent points. its being played during the boarding, it is being played just befor the jump scene, during the flying scene then at the end of the movie when roses is saying good bye to jack.
so which do you think would be the more apropreate dress the jump dress or the heaven dress. and what is the best commercial pattern to use as a base for each.

Hiya!
Sorry I wasn't fast enought to answer your first post. I have a patterna that can do: It's Simplicity 8399 (or 0673 in other parts of the world). I has a pattern that looks enough like the Jump Dress to be recognized. Unfortunatly, simplicity no longer has it, but I'm sure you can find it on e-bay - just
look for simplicity titanic pattern.

ok i have found some pics and had a feww sent to me by another
group, but now have another question. what is a good dress pattern to
use as a base for the dress. keep in mind that this doesnot have to
be 100% accurate. as long as it lends well to the rose illusion.

As for me...
A couple months ago, I received from another group an e-mail with a
picture attachement of the heart of the ocean. I remembered how at
the time the movie came out, I really wanted that necklace and stores
like Claires or Ardene's had smaller imitations for 25$, but I was 16
then and that represented a whole day of babysitting, so I decided it
was too expensive. So present day, I decided to look on e-bay for it.
I found a life size replica and bought it for 25$. Now the blue gem
is actually plastic (which is a bit deceiving) but it does have a
nice shine and your neck won't be stiff from the weight if you wear
it for a whole night.
Now I had the necklace, I needed the dress! I have taken the habit of
always buying patterns when thy are on sale, even if I can't use them
right away, because when I'll want it, it might be discontinued. That
was true of Simplicity 8399, a pattern for the Jump dress and the
Sinking dress. So I decided I would make the sinking gown because
that's the dress she wears after the portrait session where she
wheres the necklace, and she has the necklace in her coat pocket when
the ship is sinking. Now I'm still looking for one of my fabrics, but
I can't wait to make it.
Maybe I'll make the mathiching coat too...

To answer Joelles question, I am not the owner of Titanic Fan
