Hiya Kay,
I hope you'll post pictures of the dresses you've made to the group's
album.
As for the seams you mention, can you show me a picture? I have never
noticed anything before, but I haven't closely looked at it either.
Gwenyver
Hi, Im kay and crazy about titanic gowns, I've so far made the jump
dress twice and the breakfast gown once. Now I am working on the
sinking coat.
One thing stumps me however about the sinking coat. It appears on the
seams that there are other seamline looking..lines next to the seam
lines. Are these just sewn lines flat on the coat or are they interior
tucks in some sort.
I am looking forward to meeting new people and discussing gowns and
such. Thankyou
Sincerely,
Kay

comes to recreating a costume. I noticed that you had said it was a
coral dress with a dark red overdress. It's actually a black
overdress. In pictures it looks like it's red but it's just the lens
picking out the coral underneath. Thought I'd point that out.
I started the musiln for my own Dinner Gown a couple nights ago and
in researching it I found that the angular panels are actually sewn
into seams in the coral taffeta underdress. I'm picky about
accuracy,as I said earlier, so I made a base dress using McCalls
pattern 5001. It's a cute little dress pattern but needed some
serious modifying. That done and a basic dress made I cut the angled
seams into it, picked it apart and added seam allowances again. It's
finally all back together again and now consists of 24 pieces rather
than 7 but it's accurate. Sorry I'm going on. Anywho I'll post my
progress at www.michaldesigns.piczo.com if you want to see how I
make mine.

I was reading your post and I'm real stickler for accuracy when it
comes to recreating a costume. I noticed that you had said it was a
coral dress with a dark red overdress. It's actually a black
overdress. In pictures it looks like it's red but it's just the lens
picking out the coral underneath. Thought i'd point that out.

I'm making her dinner gown and i'm at the research stage of it right
now. I found a great site that's got an awesome overview of rthe dinner
dress, with diagrams that break down the different peices of the dress.
Hope it helps you as much as it helped me. Feel free to message me for
any more information. Heres the site, just cut and paste the address
into your address bar: http://www.sensibility.com/titanic/dinnerhelp.htm

You might go to Ebay and type in Titanic gown patterns. There are several there.
Or just type the same in the address bar on the Internet.
Many times at the local Hancock fabric stores they have costume patterns on sale for only $.99.
Some of the Regency style patterns work well with but a few changes for a Titanic style dress.
I create clothing for historical fashion shows I give at various B & B's, The Historical Society, ladies teas, colleges, retirement homes, etc. You might want to check out my website. www.victoriagraydesigns.com
Hope these suggestions help a bit.
I generally make my own patterns. But if you're new to sewing the
above info. may help you.
hey im kinda new, but i love making the titanic dresses, but i am
having trouble finding a pattern to match the breakfast gown. if anyone
can help me, id appreciate it.
thanks

Actually the alternate ending is Brock seeing Old Rose before she
throws the necklace overboard and tries to talk her out of it.
They're calling it Brock's Ephiphany (sp?)

Well, what size do you need? Some sizes are harder to find than others. But I must tell you, the Simplicity pattern for the Swim gown isn't excactly accurate, it needs modifying or else you get a "pregnant look" from the dress and the pattern only has 3 layers.

I'm attempting to make the "sinking" dress or "swim" dress. I know
that simplicity made a pattern for it some time ago, but I can't seem
to find one my size. Does anyone know where I would find one?
Hi everyone!
This is an amazingly cool group and im so glad that i found it! I
adore clothing. Mostly different period clothing and I was so
impressed with the costumes in titanic! wow! not only is it one of my
favorite movies but the costumes are magnificent! I'm hoping to be
making the sinking dress and flying dress for my own! So i hope that
this group will be a lot of fun and a lot of help!
Bye!

Hi Lauren!
I know what you mean about the hair. I'm tranparent white in skin tone
and have golden blond hair. Yet it seams that all the character's I
want to portray have brown hair (Arwen, Padmé). Go figure.
The dinner dress is a great choice, it is really gorgeous. It is
actually fairly simple to make if you can draw patterns. It is a basic
dress, I'm guessing empire waist, with a square neckline. So you would
ne a coral coloured dress first and then a another dress in dark red
veil like fabric, that is slit on one side. you can either make the
oblique panels one by one or bead your dress to make it to an angle.
I hope it's clear. It makes sense in my hear, but writting it down is
tougher.
You can do a google search for "Diner Dress 1912", you'll find lots of
info. Also, I have found these usefull links for Titanic like dresses
