kuduro

hey folkes.

anyone out there in canuckistan heard of kuduro?  if not, then you're old and out of touch.

for centuries fado has been lisbon's urban music and it is again on the rise.  but now along comes kuduro to kick fado's ass.  and that's what kuduro means...cu duro...hard ass.  where fado is all sad and miserable and killed off the dance part of it who knows how long ago, kuduro is fast and happy and celebrates dance.

for those who don't know, kuduro comes from luanda and has made it's bed in amadora, the jane/finch of lisboa.  and from amadora comes portugal's best known band of the moment, buraka som sistema.

al jazeera, by far one of the best 24 hour news channels in the world, has a great music show called playlist about world fusion and they did an episode on kuduro.

i quite like the music and though i've never been a break dance fan, i have to say watching these kuduro dancers is just as exciting as the music.  kuduro dance is like break dancing only much more creative.  but don't take my word for it.  check out the following links:
