Last night’s election saw a wave of Americans go to the polls to expand Medicaid in Maine, reject racism up and down the ballot in Virginia, and reject Chris Christie’s protege in New Jersey. Now, Donald Trump, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are realizing that their days of a unified government may be numbered. So they are going to do everything in their power to make those days count, by continuing their corporate agenda to promote the interests of the super-rich at the expense of the rest of us. This fight is not over.
Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price resigned in scandal, after charging millions in private jet travel to the American taxpayer while traveling the country giving speeches on why we can’t afford Medicare and Medicaid.
Now, Donald Trump is reportedly leaning toward Alex Azar―a former pharmaceutical executive who has repeatedly opposed measures to restrain drug company profiteering and limit improper marketing, and favors weaker drug safety approval standards―to replace Price.
Sign the petition today demanding that the next Secretary of Health and Human Services be someone who puts the interests of the American people first, not prescription drug corporations!
Alex Azar has spent nearly a decade in the pharmaceutical industry, most recently as Eli Lilly’s head of U.S. operations. He believes that drug prices are not high enough, when Americans already pay the highest prices for prescription drugs in the world. We need a Secretary of HHS who will take on the drug companies, not pad their pockets!
Stand with Social Security Works and demand the U.S. Senate reject any nominee for HHS who has direct ties to the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries.
It’s time to stop the revolving door in Washington.
